I recently had my first ever filler treatment for my ghastly wrinkly neck and when I share this with other people I find I am being met with two types of surprise. The first is the classic you’re too young for that why are you having fillers; a naïve statement to say the least, aesthetics isn’t a simple formula of what treatment at what exact age.
The second type of surprise is that I’ve actually never had fillers before given that I run an aesthetics clinic and highly involved in the industry as a whole.
Well to the second I stick by my unwavering ethos when it comes to aesthetic procedures which is if it bothers you then go see an expert and do something, if it doesn’t leave it alone. Aesthetic treatments cost money and carry risk so don’t change something because everyone else has or thinks you should.
However, my neck has always bothered me from being a teenager, always conjuring images of the michelin Man when I look in the mirror. Last week we had several practitioners training in the clinic and along popped the brand spanking new filler Aliaxin SR a new type of HA practically designed for those unsightly tyre lines that run across the neck.
I dreamed that one day when I lost my student beer-guzzling weight the saggy wrinkly neck would go but it didn’t and just like many women my weight has fluctuated my whole life and even though I’m at a healthy size now, the signs show on my neck and thighs with lines and stretch-marks. On top of this the ugly lined neck also seems to be quite a genetic issue.
Now I don’t believe in miracles, I see far too many patients expecting a wand rather than a syringe, so I knew this wouldn’t instantly make my lines disappear and I know that all fillers can carry some risks even in the best medical hands.
However, Aliaxin SR is one of 4 fillers in the range produced by IBSA Farmaceutici Italia designed to fill broad areas, as well as facial contour definition with a long-lasting effect. It has a unique consistency that allows it to spread and really hydrate rather than just shape and gather in one area – perfect for large areas like he neck. IBSA’s filler is an ultra-pure grade hyaluronic acid, which ranks worldwide as ‘top quality’ in terms of purity and safety.
So there’s the science bit and I could go on but it’s very confusing for us non-medical folk. Now given this filler has a very safe track record, it was a little ironic that I had the itchiest reddest reaction on my neck….… turns out this was just the anti-bacterial solution used to clean the skin. If I had reacted to the filler, I would have been the only recorded reaction in the whole of Europe so that just tells you how safe and easy it is and thank god because I am really happy with the results! The treatment itself was not too high on the pain scale but did pinch at times with that area of skin generally being so sensitive.
My Michelin neck lines as I like to call them are much softer and the hydration in my neck is so much better, I could swear almost visible. I used to pinch my neck and practically count the seconds it would take to return and now it snaps back in place in a second. Now I know there’s some hope to softening these horrendous lines, I’ve decided to invest in better skincare too and keep that dermis hydrated and protected especially on the delicate skin around the neck. Can’t wait to introduce the new skin care range we have chosen but more on that next time!
